If any of you have been seriously motivated over the last weeks from your sofa seats whilst watching the Olympics, then perhaps you’ve started to wonder about sports at University – either in a team game, or maybe just a relaxed social meet.
I’m feeling pretty phsyched right now having been to the Olympics to watch some hockey matches (my main sport) so I’m looking forward to returning to that at Uni!! Did any of you get tickets to watch anything awesome like a race or event? (Comment and let me know what you saw if you did 😀 ) I got to see GB vs Belgium, and Argentina vs New Zealand – all womens events, and woww… it was so good to watch something so big like that live!! And all because I got free tickets (my mate won two tickets in a competition and decided to invite me!) Bit gutted though as I didn’t make it onto tv!!
So back to the point anyways, are any of you keen sportsmen or sportswomen from college/school and want to continue… or maybe you fancy taking up a new sport for a laugh!? Either way, plenty of chance for that here at Glam uni!
We have a wide range of teams who normally train once a week, and have matches on a Wednesday afternoon as part of something called BUCS (British Universities + Colleges Sport).
If you’re due to visit on an open day then maybe check out our brand new £3.7million sports park which is quality! Its just down the road from our Treforest/Glyntaff campuses, and only 15 mins from our Atrium campus. So you can get an idea for what it has, some of the features are as follows: netball courts, fitness and conditioning suite, rugby and football pitches, a hockey pitch, two all weather pitches (one of which is FIFA approved). Famous teams such as the All-Blacks have been known to come train here whilst on tour, so hopefully that gives an idea of how good it is 🙂
If you want to know more then you can check out further details and a video on this link: http://sport.glam.ac.uk
Perhaps you never really were interested in sport at college or school but fancy giving it a shot? Well at our sports hall on the Treforest campus a good variety of sports and activities take place during the course of the week, such as climbing (with our own climbing wall), basketball, yoga, martial arts, military circuit training, and many more!
Depending on what level of gym membership you decide to get (if any) then these sessions will either be free, subsidised, or maybe around £3.50 a session, so you can try it out without any commitment, but they are all great fun and a good way to meet people or just have a chilled out laugh with a friend or two who are also up for it – give it a go!
For all the team sports if you want to sign up for trials – there will be stalls at the freshers fayre for you to sign up. If you are interested in other activities which run, then booklets are available in the sports hall, or comment here and I can get you any information you need.
If you have any questions or queries then just ask away… Im still waiting for someone to ask me something, so come on, do it! If you are wondering it, chances are that someone else is thinking the same question too, so just ask! 🙂 J
